Wranglers Edge Bugs in Shootout

Oct 16, 2021

The Shreveport Mudbugs (4-4-2) were up-ended in the shootout, 3-2 to the Amarillo Wranglers at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum Saturday night.
Amarillo got on the board first for the second straight night when Glebs Prohorenkovs fired home his fourth tally of the season with a perfect feed in the slot to make it a 1-0 contest at 5:57 of the opening period. Shreveport then tilted the ice in their favor, but couldn’t cash with great chances. The Bugs led in SOG, 11-7 after one.
The Bugs finally broke through in the second period when Johnny Hallard fed a perfect pass in front for his buddy Lukas Sedlacek who slipped in his third goal of the year through the 5-hole to even the score, 1-1 at 3:32. Shreveport then took their first lead of this series at 5:40 when Nik Miller shoveled home a rebound in front for his second goal in as many games to give the Bugs a 2-1 edge. Jake Mack and Colin Doherty set up the play and earned the assists. The reigning champs led in SOG, 22-12 after two periods of play.
The Bugs were trying to hold on in the third period, but it was Kristaps Scrastins who powered in the game-tying tally at 16:17 to even the score, 2-2.
The game would stay tied through the OT session sending the contest to a shootout.
The shootout stayed scoreless through four rounds, but in the fifth round it was Jakob Peterson who fired home the game-winning tally along the glove side to help Amarillo sneak past Shreveport, 3-2.

The Bugs will hit the road for a six-week stretch beginning with a visit to Kay Yaeger Coliseum to take on the Wichita Falls Warriors next Friday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
