Burke Ties NAHL-Franchise Point Scoring Mark in Bugs Loss to Warriors

Mar 30, 2024

The Shreveport Mudbugs (40-15-2) got a big PP goal from Hayden Nichol, but it was the lone goal for them as they fell late, 2-1 to the Oklahoma Warriors at the Blazers Ice Centre Friday night.

OKC took advantage of an odd-man rush and capitalized on a goal from Louie Kamienski who shot in his sixth goal of the season giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead at 18:32 of the opening period. OKW led in SOG, 10-7 after one.

SHV responded at 11:57 of the second period on the PP when Hayden Nichol found a hole from the top of the RW circle and threaded in his team-leading 24th goal of the year through traffic to even the score, 1-1. Ryan Burke picked up the only assist which was his 59th point of the season tying Braiden Dorfman for the NAHL-Franchise record for most points in a single season. Dorfman tallied 59 points in the 2020-2021 season. After a better effort from the Bugs in the second, SOG were 16-13 in favor of OKW.

The game stayed tied and tight throughout most of the third period until William Ahlrik was able to tip home a goal in front at 17:18 to give the Warriors the lead back at 2-1. The Bugs would have a PP w/ 1:07 left in the game and pulled their goalie, but couldn’t generate any chances on net as they lost for just the fourth time in their past 21 games.

The Bugs and Warriors will conclude their two-game series tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. from the Blazers Ice Centre.
