Oct 1, 2023

The Shreveport Mudbugs (5-2-1) fought hard all game long and got edged out in the shootout, 2-1 to the Lone Star Brahmas at the Nytex Sports Centre Saturday night.

After a scoreless opening period, LSB struck first blood just 52 seconds into the second as Charles Masek faked out the Bugs netminder and tapped in his fourth goal of the year to make it a 1-0 contest. SHV would get into penalty trouble, but it was leader Hayden Nichol who lifted his team as they were on a 2-man PK. Nichol would win the faceoff draw and grab the loose puck and skate past the Brahmas PP unit and forehand in his team-leading sixth goal of the year on a breakaway evening the score, 1-1 at 4:10. The Brahmas led in SOG, 22-8 after two.

The game stayed tied 1-1 through the third period and OT sending the game into a shootout once again. After both teams came up empty, it was Justin Kerr firing home the game-winning goal in the fourth round to help the Brahmas edge the Bugs, 2-1.

Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau made 31 stops to help SHV earn a point for their effort.

The Bugs will return home for a Halloween-Themed Fall Fest at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum next weekend. SHV will open up a two-game series next Friday night against the NM Ice Wolves. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
