Mar 10, 2018

The Shreveport Mudbugs (38-9-3-2) cruised past the Topeka Roadrunners, 4-1 winning their 17th home contest in their last 18 tries Saturday night at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.

Brendon Gysbers put a ripper into the back of the net on the PP just 2:15 into the game for his sixth goal of the season on the PP. Cole Quisenberry and Jonatan Asplund grabbed the assists on Gysbers’ goal. Bugs led 1-0 after the opening period of play.

Shreveport extended its lead in the 2nd period when Jake Transit buried in his 13th goal of the year on the PP from the right wing circle at 13:16. Gysbers picked up the only assist on the goal for his second point of the night. Mudbugs led 2-0 after two periods of play.

The Bugs continued to pour it on when Derek Contessa made a brilliant cross-ice pass that Jay Feiwell tapped in for his 8th goal of the year at 10:13 of the 3rd period. Asplund picked up his second assist on the night making it a 3-0 Shreveport advantage. Topeka scored on the PP to spoil Jaxon Castor’s shutout bid, but Ryan Burnett tapped home an EN goal at 19:10 to seal up a Shreveport 4-1 victory and sweep over Topeka.

Castor picks up his seventh win in net as a Bug.

The Mudbugs will continue their long home stretch at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum as they’ll host the Odessa Jackalopes next Friday and Saturday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11pm for both contests.
