Mudbugs Win in Shoot Out

The Shreveport Mudbugs (24-5-3-2) escaped with a wild and crazy 6-5 shootout victory over the Corpus Christi Ice Rays Tuesday night at the George.

Shreveport sizzled the scoreboard early when Ryan Burnett tipped home his seventh tally of the season assisted by Jacob Skolnik at 3:48 of the 1st period. The Bugs led 1-0 when Cam Cook fired home his 11th goal of the season on a good offensive entry assisted by Warren NatyShak. Corpus Christi would net a late goal in the period as Shreveport led 2-1 after one period of play.

The 2nd period was wild and crazy which saw six goals scored – three from each team. Brendan VanSweden netted his 7th, Jay Feiwell grabbed his 5th, and Jordan Fader tallied his 9th goal to give Shreveport a 5-4 lead after two periods of play.

Corpus Christi would score a game-tying goal late in the third period sending the game into OT once again for both of these teams.

There was no scoring in OT moving the game into a shootout.

Roberts Baranovskis would wrist in the goal in the shootout session lifting Shreveport to a thrilling 6-5 victory over Corpus Christi.

Gustavs Grigals picked up the win in net making 21 saves not including the four stops he made in the shootout.

The Mudbugs will be off this weekend and return to action January 12th for Pucks and Prayers night with Mike Fisher at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. The Bugs play the Topeka Roadrunners and puck drop is scheduled for 7:11pm. ​
