Mudbugs Sting the Ice Rays

The Shreveport Mudbugs (16-13-5) were able to squeeze out a late third period goal to beat the Corpus Christi Ice Rays, 1-0 Saturday night at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
The Mudbugs put the pressure on in the opening period and out-shot the Ice Rays, 18-12. No goals were scored however and the game was scoreless after one period of play.
It was tension-packed 2nd period as both teams delivered big hits, big saves, and quality scoring chances. The Bugs led in SOG, 16-10 in the middle frame and 34-22 overall after two periods of play.
The game stayed scoreless until 9:51 of th 3rd period when Tim Khokhlachev stole a puck and drove down the ice and shot a puck on net which was stopped, but Gueorgui Feduolov was able to pounce on the rebound and flip it top shelf for his fifth goal of the year! The Bugs were able to hold that 1-0 lead to end Corpus Christi’s nine game win streak.
Leo Chuard made 30 saves to pick up his first shutout of the season.

The Mudbugs will be off next weekend before heading down to Corpus Christi to take on the Ice Rays at the American Bank Center for a two-game set starting Friday night, Jan. 11th. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. for both Friday and Saturday’s contests. ​
