Mudbugs Steamroll IceRays

The Shreveport Mudbugs (21-11) continued their dominance of the Corpus Christi IceRays this season scoring four unanswered goals to lead the way to a 4-1 victory to close out the year of 2019 Tuesday night at the American Bank Center.

The IceRays got on the board first at 9:47 when Ben Biester tapped in his first goal of the season on an odd-man rush to give Corpus Christi the early 1-0. The Bugs out-shot Corpus Christi, 9-4 after one period of play.

The Mudbugs roared back with a pair of goals 1:31 apart early in the 2nd period. Ryan Dickinson tied the game up with his second goal of the season by smacking home the juicy rebound in front. David Breazeale grabbed the only assist at 2:08 making it a 1-1 contest. Then 1:31 later, it was Alexis Girard cutting through the slot rifling home his fifth goal of the year to give the Bugs the lead 2-1 at 3:39 of the 2nd period. Billy Feczko and Matt Weber earned the assists. Then at 17:25 it was a great rush finished by Brent Keefer’s rocketing shot from the RW circle for his second goal of the year extending the Shreveport lead to 3-1. Conor Witherspoon and Gio Procopio earned the helpers. The Bugs led in SOG, 18-15 after two periods of play.
The Mudbugs controlled most of the 3rd period as Warren Natyshak put the icing on the cake scoring his sixth goal of the year on a breakaway making it a 4-1 contest at 13:06. Ryan Dickinson picked up his second point of the night earning the only assist of the night.
Richie Parent earned his 11th victory in net making 25 saves on the night.
Shreveport improved to 7-0 on the season against the IceRays.
The Bugs and IceRays will continue their rivalry this Friday night at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. It’s Military Appreciation weekend and puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
