Mudbugs Shutout Rhinos Again & Earn Another Sweep in March

Mar 18, 2023

The Shreveport Mudbugs (31-14-7) continued their hot March with another nice shutout over the El Paso Rhinos, 2-0 for their sixth straight victory overall in front of another rowdy crowd at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum Saturday night.
After a scoreless opening, Simon Bucheler began the second period in net. No word was given on the status of Nikola Goich who started the game. SHV would break the ice at 4:22 when Jake Mack hacked and wacked in his 13th goal of the year to make it a 1-0 contest. The Bugs added on at 8:55 when Hayden Nichol came on a rebound in front and roofed in his 11th tally of the campaign along the far side. Garrett Steele and Logan Heroux earned the helpers to make it a 2-0 lead for SHV.
SHV controlled most of the third period and negated any kind of El Paso comeback attempt as Simon Bucheler came in relief and completed a 19-save shutout for this NAHL-leading 24th win in net.
The Bugs have now won six straight games overall and stay undefeated in the month of March.

The Bugs will hit the road next weekend and open up a two-game series against the Odessa Jackalopes. Game one will be next Friday night w/ puck drop scheduled for 7:15 from Ector County Coliseum.
