Mudbugs Shutout Ice Wolves

The Shreveport Mudbugs (4-1) used a four-goal third period to help shutout the New Mexico Ice Wolves, 6-0 Friday night for their third straight victory.
The Bugs and Wolves had their chances in the first period, but both couldn’t capitalize as shots were in favor of NM, 8-6. Both teams came up empty on two PP chances each as well.
Shreveport got on the board in the second period Brent Keefer went top shelf from the RW circle off a perfect pass from Dawson Sciarrino for his first goal of the season on PP to give the Bugs a 1-0 at 2:37. Davis Goukler earned the secondary helper on the tally. The Bugs added to their lead Braiden Dorfman gunned in his second goal of the year from the RW circle as well to give Shreveport a 2-0 edge at 10:35. Keefer and Trenten Heyde earned the assists on the goal. The Mudbugs led 14-11 in SOG after two periods of play.
The Bugs extended their lead with a big third period. Gio Procopio netted his second goal of the year with a nifty shot from the right corner as Matt Weber and Heyde grabbed the helpers and it was a 3-0 Shreveport lead at 3:30. It was just 80 seconds later when Connor Gatto got in front of the net and rammed in his first goal of the season with a great feed from Billy Feczko behind the net. Austin Brimmer got the secondary helper and it was 4-0 Bugs early in the third period. Weber would make his 2020-2021 debut a special one as he scored his first two goals of the season at 15:32 and 19:58 to put the icing on the cake of a 6-0 Mudbugs victory.
Cole Hudson continues to shine in net making 26 saves to pick up his first shutout of the season.

The Bugs and Wolves will conclude their two-game series tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Nytex Sports Centre. ​
