Mudbugs Ground Warriors

The Shreveport Mudbugs (12-2-2) skated to a 3-1 win over the Wichita Falls Warriors Friday night at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
The Mudbugs scored the game’s first goal just 2:29 into the contest when Gio Procopio jammed in his fifth tally of the season from the short side giving Shreveport the early 1-0 lead. Aidan Metcalfe and Dawson Sciarrino earned the helpers. Wichita Falls came right back at 6:43 when Cole Teleki threw a shot from the point through traffic which snuck in for his first goal of the season tying the game, 1-1. The Warriors led in SOG, 16-14 after one period of play.
Shreveport regained the lead in the second period on a busted play when Austin Brimmer fired a shot toward the net and it was Braiden Dorfman slamming home the rebound in front for his fifth goal of the season at 4:41 to give the Bugs a 2-1 lead. Brimmer and Billy Feczko earned the assists. The Bugs added to the lead when Jacob Onstott blazed through the slot and tucked in his fourth tally of the season along the far post to make it a 3-1 contest. Chris Hedden picked up the only assist. Shreveport led in SOG, 37-29 after two periods of play.
Shreveport just contained Wichita Falls in the third period where there was no real good scoring chances for either team. The Bugs out-shot the Warriors, 48-34.
Cole Hudson earned his ninth win in net making 33 saves on the night.
Bugs improved to 4-0-1 in five home games this season.

The Bugs and Warriors will conclude their series tomorrow night at George’s Pond In Hirsch Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m. ​
