Mudbugs Catch Kenai

The Shreveport Mudbugs (10-3) scored early and late to skate away with a nice 6-2 victory over the Kenai River Brown Bears in the franchise’s first game in Alaska Friday night.
Brendan VanSweden continues his hot streak as he was able to slam home a juicy rebound from the far post for his fourth goal and team leading tenth point of the season. The goal was unassisted at 6:09 of the opening period to give the Bugs an early 1-0 lead. Roberts Baranovskis then rifled home a beauty top shelf on the powerplay at 17:24 to give Shreveport a 2-0 edge after one period of play. Andrew Lane and Ryan Burnett got the assists on the PP goal.
It was a 2-1 contest early in the 2nd period before Andrew Lane slapped home a wrister from the point for his first goal of the season. Alex Spencer got the only assist on Lane’s goal at 7:46 of the 2nd to give the Bugs, a 3-1 edge. Kenai RIver responded with a goal at 11:59 to make it a 3-2 contest after 2.
Shreveport broke it open in the third period when Kieran Durgan made his Mudbugs return a special one as he scored on a breakaway to give his team a 4-2 lead early in the 3rd period. Jordan Fader and Jay Feiwell scored goals later in the final period to put the icing on the cake in a 6-2 victory for the Mudbugs.
Gustavs Grigals gets his sixth win in net for the Bugs.

The Mudbugs and Brown Bears will wrap up their two-game set tomorrow night from the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:30pm CT. ​
