Mudbugs Blast the Bulls

The Shreveport Mudbugs (21-5-2-2) scored early and late to help blowout the Amarillo Bulls, 6-1 in front of a capacity crowd for Teddy Bear Toss night at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
Georges Pond was swamped with Teddy Bears tossed from the packed crowd when Jay Feiwell backhanded home his fourth goal of the year. Brendan VanSweden got the only assist at 17:10 of the 1st period. The Mudbugs led, 1-0 after 1.
With the game tied 1-1 in the 2nd period, Captain Dominick Procopio put a slapper from the point that found its way through for his fifth goal of the year at 7:50 of the 2nd period. Cameron Cook and Cole Quisenberry got the assists on Procopio’s goal giving the Bugs a 2-1 edge. Jacob Holmers then buried home his third tally from the slot to extend Shreveport’s lead to 3-1. Gueorgui Feduolov & Kieran Durgan picked up the assists on the goal at 12:58. Shreveport led 3-1 after two periods of play.
The Mudbugs widened their lead in the third period when Ryan Burnett tucked one home for his fifth goal of the year at 6:13 assisted by Durgan and Quisenberry making it a 4-1 Shreveport edge. Burnett wouldn’t stop there as he banged in a juicy rebound at 17:11 for his 2nd goal of the night to break the game wide open at 5-1. Jordan Fader picked up the only assist on the goal. Brendan Vanswedeb would tip a goal in for his sixth of the year at 19:23 to put the icing on the cake making it a 6-1 Mudbugs lead. Nikolai Jenson and Procopio grabbed the assists on Vansweden’s tally.
James Durham picked up the win in net as he improves his personal record to 11-2-1.
Shreveport now has 46 points on the season where they now lead Lone Star by nine points for the lead in the South Division.

The Mudbugs will conclude their two-game set tomorrow afternoon against the Bulls and play their last game before the Christmas Break. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:11pm from Georges Pond at Hirsch Coliseum. ​
