Miller Scores a Pair of Goals in Heartbreaking Loss to Oklahoma

Oct 29, 2022

The Shreveport Mudbugs (6-7-3) couldn’t hold onto a three-goal lead late in the game and dropped a heartbreaker to the Oklahoma Warriors, 4-3 in OT at Blazers Ice Centre Saturday night.
The Bugs got off to a good start when Nik Miller swept home a rebound in front at 17:55 of the opening period to give Shreveport a 1-0 edge. It was Miller’s fourth tally of the season and the assists were credited to his linemates: Drake Morse and Jaden Goldie on the play. SOG were 8-7 in favor of Oklahoma.
After a scoreless, but feisty second period, the last period would provide lots of fireworks for both teams. Captain Garrett Steele would slam home a rebound in front for his fifth goal of the season to make it a 2-0 Shreveport lead at 1:47. Logan Gotinsky would earn the only helper on Steele’s tally. The Bugs would then lengthen their lead at 10:29 when Miller scored on a penalty shot by simply faking out the netminder and going to the backhand for his second goal of the game to make it a 3-0 contest. Then the Warriors would storm back and it started at 12:28 when Hunter Jones would jolt in a goal – shorthanded to make it a 3-1 game. Oklahoma would have all the momentum and score their second goal of the game Drew Sutton with traffic in front at 14:55 and all of a sudden, it was a one-goal game. The home team wouldn’t stop there and they’d tie the game at 17:19 as Kaden Nelson yanked in a goal just above Simon Bucheler’s glove side to knot the game up, 3-3.
The game would go into OT and at 3:47, Max Dronen drilled a puck in which handcuffed Bucheler and helped Oklahoma come away with a 4-3 victory over Shreveport.

The Bugs continue their longest road trip of the season as they’ll travel to Albuquerque, NM to take on the Ice Wolves for a two-game series beginning next Friday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT from Outpost Ice Arenas.
