Marino’s Goal Lifts Bugs Past Brahmas in Home Opener

Sep 23, 2023

The Shreveport Mudbugs (4-1) mustered enough offense and got superb goaltending to get past the Lone Star Brahmas, 3-1 in front of a packed house at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum Friday night.

Ian Emery broke through for the Bugs at 11:32 of the opening period as he slammed in the secondary chance in front of the net to give SHV an early 1-0 edge. Lucas Deeb and Sutton Murray earned the helpers on the game’s first goal.

LSB would even the score late in the second period when Beau Kralovec fired a shot from the far side which snuck its way into the net to tie the game, 1-1.

SHV would respond early in the third period at 6:20 as Nick Marino squeezed in his first goal of the season along the short side to give the Bugs a 2-1 lead. Brayden Cook set up the play and earned the only assist on the eventual game-winning goal. The Bugs would seal up the victory as Logan Heroux hammered in the EN goal to complete a 3-1 Shreveport victory over their arch-rival.

Carson Dorfman picked up his third victory in the cage as he made 22 stops on the night.

The Bugs and Brahmas will conclude their two-game series tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m. from George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
