The Shreveport Mudbugs (20-13-5) got a four-point night from Nick Marino to help guide them past the Lone Star Brahmas, 6-2 at a packed house at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum Saturday night.
LSB got on the board at 15:50 of the opening period when Johan Rosenquist shoveled in a rebound in front for his ninth tally of the season to put the Brahmas up 1-0. SHV led in SOG, 8-7 after one.
LSB extended their lead at 8:01 of the 2nd period on a 5-min PP when David Skuhrovec roofed in his second goal of the year from the far circle to make it a 2-0 contest. The Bugs got on the board at 18:48 when Ryan Austin hammered in his second goal of the season from the near circle to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. Nick Marino and Brent Litchard earned the helpers on SHV’s first goal of the night.
The Bugs had one of their best third periods this season and it started at 1:06 when Nick Marino knuckled in his third goal of the year from the far circle to even the score, 2-2. Then at 11:34 it was Jake Mack redirecting home his seventh goal of the campaign in front for a huge PP goal which gave SHV their first lead of the night, 3-2. At 17:20, it was Marino again as he shoveled home a rebound on an odd-man rush to extend the lead to 4-2. Drake Morse drilled home an EN goal and Hayden Hichol fired home a extra icing on the cake tally at 18:25 and 19:01 respectively to close out a resounding 6-2 victory over their arch-rival.
Nick Marino led all scorers w/ two goals and two assists in the contest.
Simon Bucheler earned the win in net making just 19 saves on the night.

The Bugs will hit the road once again as they’ll begin a two-game series against the Odessa Jackalopes. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. next Friday night from Ector County Coliseum.
