The Shreveport Mudbugs (2-3-1) were upended in OT, 3-2 to the Odessa Jackalopes Saturday night at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
The Bugs got off to a better start than they did last night as Austin Brimmer rifled home his first tally of the season at 9:59 of the opening period to give the home team the early 1-0 lead. Connor Gatto earned the only helper on the game’s first goal. Both teams had their chances as the Bugs led in SOG, 13-7 after one.
Shreveport lengthened their lead at 8:47 of the 2nd period when Tim Khokhlachev threw a shot from the right point which pinballed its way into the back of the net for his first goal of the year to push the Bugs lead to 2-0. Jacob OnStott and Johnny Hallard earned the assists. Odessa came back late in the 2nd and got on the board when Chris Duclair scored his fifth tally of the season from the LW circle with a tricky shot at 18:58 to make it a 2-1 contest.
The Jacks wouldn’t go away and evened the score at 12:17 of the 3rd period when Dayne Hoyord wrists in his first goal of the season from the RW circle to make it a 2-2 contest. The game would stay tied 2-2 going into OT for the first time this season for Shreveport.
It unfortunately didn’t go the Bugs way as John Perdion took a perfect pass from Connor Couet and drilled home his fourth tally in the slot to lift the Jacks to a 3-2 win and sweep over Shreveport at George’s Pond.
The Bugs will continue their home-stand and welcome one of the two newest teams in the South Division in the El Paso Rhinos to George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m. next Friday night
