Ice Wolves Slow Down Hot Bugs

Mar 7, 2022

The Shreveport Mudbugs (24-18-5) couldn’t get much going offensively and fell to the New Mexico Ice Wolves, 2-1 at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum Sunday night.
The Bugs and Wolves had a sluggish opening period with no scoring. NM led in SOG, 9-7 after one.
The Wolves got on the board in the second period at 9:58 from JD Metz who tipped home his ninth goal in front off a tic-tac-tie play to give NM the early 1-0 lead. The Bugs responded at 15:31 when Garrett Steele and Drake Morse grinded down low and found Logan Valkama who wired home his seventh goal of the season to even the score, 1-1.
The game stayed tied in the third period until the 5:12 mark when Nicholas Haviar redirected home his 11th goal of the season to give NM the lead back at 2-1. The Bugs put a late push to try to tie it again, but couldn’t get a bounce to go their way.
The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for Shreveport.

The Bugs will welcome in their arch-rival in the Lone Star Brahmas for another two-game series beginning next Friday night at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. It’ll be our first “Wrestling”themed series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
