The Shreveport Mudbugs (16-7-2) played a simple and effective road effort as they got a pair of goals from the red hot Kyan Haldenby to help complete a 3-0 shutout over the Corpus Christi IceRays and take two out of three games at the American Bank Center Sunday afternoon.
SHV got off to another fast start in the opening period when Kyan Haldenby won the faceoff draw and popped in his ninth goal of the year from the RW circle to give the Bugs an early 1-0 lead at 8:40. The visiting team led in SOG, 10-4 after one.
Haldenby kept up his hot scoring touch going early in the second period at 4:02 when he led an odd-man rush and snapped home his second goal of the game from the LW circle to make it a 2-0 contest. SHV added another at 9:36 as Nick Marino skated in and got denied once, but as he fell to his stomach, he was able to nudge his secondary chance along the short side for his ninth tally of the year and extend the Shreveport advantage to 3-0. Wil Murphy earned the only assist on the Bugs’ third goal. SHV led in SOG, 22-11 after two.
The Bugs put the IceRays to sleep in the third period as there was no more scoring for the rest of the game. SHV out-shot CC, 33-17.
Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau earns his second shutout in net making just 17 saves on the day.
The Bugs will return home as they’ll host a two-game series against the defending Robertson Cup Champion Oklahoma Warriors next Friday and Saturday night. Game one will be on Friday w/ puck drop scheduled for 7:11 p.m. from George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. It’ll be our annual Coca-Cola Christmas-themed series w/ Teddy Bear Toss night on Saturday.
