Goldie’s Late Goal Gets Bugs Past Ice Wolves

Oct 21, 2022

The Shreveport Mudbugs (6-5-2) got great goaltending and grinded out two 3rd period goals to get past New Mexico, 2-1 Friday night at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
After a scoreless opening period, it was New Mexico who would capitalize first on a breakaway from Will Howard who poked home a goal at 17:30 of the 2nd to give the visiting team a 1-0 lead.
The Bugs had another big third period in them as at 6:12, it was Ryan Burke who banged home his first goal of the season in the slot on a busted play to even the score, 1-1. Kason Muscutt earned his first point in his NAHL on Burke’s game-tying tally. Shreveport was then a man down when Jaden Goldie got on a breakaway and snapped home his second goal in as many games from the far side to give the Mudbugs a 2-1 edge at 15:57. Logan Heroux and Maksim Sushchynski earned the helpers on the game-winning goal.
Simon Bucheler was sharp in net making 32 saves in net to go to 4-0 on the year.

The Bugs and New Mexico will conclude their two-game series tomorrow night at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
