Goich, Bugs Shutout Warriors to Earn Another Sweep & 10th straight Win on the Road

Feb 25, 2024

The Shreveport Mudbugs (34-12-2) stay hot as they get another wonderful performance from Nikola Goich and clutch scoring from their veterans to help shutout the Oklahoma Warriors, 3-0 and stay undefeated against the reigning champs at the Blazers Ice Centre Saturday night.

Hayden Nichol buried home his 19th goal of the season at 13:47 of the opening period to put SHV up 1-0 early. Colin Vassallo picked up the only assist on Nichol’s sixth goal in his last seven games.

It stayed a 1-0 contest until the third period when the Bugs essentially put the game away at 14:51 when Lucas Deeb skated along the short side and swatted in his 15th tally of the season off a perfect feed from Ryan Burke to push the Bugs edge up to 2-0. Burke had his 11-game point scoring streak snapped on Friday, but got back in the score sheet tonight. Kyan Haldenby put in an EN goal at 19:19 to put the icing on the cake and help Shreveport complete a 3-0 shutout victory and another sweep over the Oklahoma Warriors.

Nikola Goich made 24 stops to earn the shutout and help SHV improve to a perfect 6-0 record against the reigning champs this season.

The Bugs will be back at the Blazers Ice Centre next weekend to take on the Oklahoma Warriors again for a two-game series. Game one will be next Friday night with puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
