The Shreveport Mudbugs (25-11-2) got a shorthanded tally from Ryan Burke and made it stand tall in a hard-fought 1-0 shutout victory over the El Paso Rhinos at the El Paso County Events Center Friday night.
After a scoreless opening period, it was Ryan Burke who stole the puck and pounded in a shorthanded tally from the slot for his 16th goal and 3rd in as many games just 35 seconds into the second. The goal was unassisted and it gave SHV the 1-0 edge. ELP led in SOG, 14-9 after two.
The Bugs controlled most of the third as the Rhinos didn’t have many chances to try to tie the game. SHV did a good job of tilting the ice in their favor and played a solid road game to beat ELP, 1-0.
Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau earned his fourth shutout of the season in net making just 19 stops on the night.
The Bugs and Rhinos will conclude their two-game series tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT from the El Paso County Events Center.
