The Shreveport Mudbugs (32-12-2) gave up three unanswered goals in the third period and fell to the Corpus Christi IceRays, 3-1 which ended their nine-game winning streak at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum Saturday night.
After a scoreless opening period, the Bugs broke the ice as Lucas Deeb found a cutting Ryan Burke through the slot who poked home his team-leading 20th tally of the year to make it a 1-0 SHV at 1:31 of the second. Lucas Deeb and Seth Murch earned the helpers on the game’s first tally. The Bugs led in SOG, 19-13 after two.
The IceRays stormed out of the gates in the third period however and got big goals from Michael Valdez and Cody Kempf at 8:51 and 13:23 respectively giving Corpus their first lead of the series, 2-1. CC would then stop any SHV comeback attempt as Pierson Sobush knocked in the EN goal at 19:39 to complete a 3-1 win over the Mudbugs and halt their winning streak at nine games.
The Bugs will hit the road once again and begin a two-game series against the defending Robertson Cup Champs in the Oklahoma Warriors. Game one of the two-game series will be next Friday night w/ puck drop scheduled for 7:15 p.m. from the Blazers Ice Centre.
