The Shreveport Mudbugs (30-11-2) had three players with multiple points as they thrashed the Corpus Christi IceRays, 5-1 to win their seventh straight contest overall at the American Bank Center Friday night.
The Bugs and IceRays were scoreless after the opening period. SHV tilted the ice though out-shooting CC, 15-7 after one.
SHV broke the ice on the PP in the second as Liam Fleet flipped in his third tally of the year from the top right circle to give the Bugs a 1-0 lead at 8:25. Nick Marino and Brayden Cook earned the assists. Shreveport would extend their lead at 11:03 as Marino smacked in a rebound in front for his 15th goal of the year to make it a 2-0. Kyan Haldenby and Carter McKay picked up the assists on Marino’s goal. SHV led in SOG, 26-13 after two.
The Bugs poured it on in the third which started at 5:21 when Ryan Burke stayed with a puck in front of the net and roofed in his 17th of the year and extended his point scoring streak to eight games to increase the lead to 3-0. Colin Vassallo and Lucas Deeb picked up the assists. SHV kept it going as at 8:21 it was Deeb poking in the rebound in the goal mouth for his 14th tally of the campaign making it a 4-0 contest. Wil Murphy and Seth Murch earned the helpers there. After that, Carter McKay stole a puck and fired home his fourth tally of the year on a breakaway pushing the advantage to 5-0 at 11:30. The only thing which spoiled the Bugs night was Troy Pelton who scored on Nikola Goich at 18:18 ending his shutout bid.
Goich made 23 stops to pick up his sixth win and help SHV earn their seventh straight overall victory.
The Bugs and IceRays will conclude their three-game series tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from the American Bank Center.
