Burke and Goldie’s Late Goals Lift Bugs over Brahmas

Nov 11, 2022

The Shreveport Mudbugs (7-8-4) were able to deliver some late game heroics to earn an improbable 3-2 win over their arch-rivals in the Lone Star Brahmas at Nytex Sports Centre Friday night.
It was a scoreless opening period, but the Bugs out-shot the Brahmas, 9-1. Shreveport out-worked Lone Star in every aspect of the game.
The Bugs finally broke the ice at 15:32 of the 2nd period when Drake Morse found some space from the right corner and snapped a shot towards the net which was redirected in from Eric Vitale for his second goal of the season to give Shreveport a 1-0 edge. Morse and Jaden Goldie earned the helpers on the game’s first goal. Shreveport led in SOG, 15-9 after two.
Lone Star would respond at 8:03 of the 3rd period as Ryan Comishock flipped in his second goal of the season – shorthanded which caught the Bugs off guard to even the score, 1-1. The Brahmas would then capitalize w/ less than three minutes on a broken play when Jakub Teply would slip in his second tally of the year to give Lone Star a sudden 2-1 advantage. The Bugs clawed back though as on the PP and an empty net – six attackers were able to produce the tying goal at 19:53. Garrett Steele threw a shot towards the net which was tipped home from Ryan Burke to dramatically tie the game, 2-2.
Burke’s goal sent the contest to OT where just 52 seconds in, it was Morse on an odd-man rush feeding Jaden Goldie across the far side who hammered home his third goal of the year to lift Shreveport to a heroic 3-2 victory over their arch-rival.
Simon Bucheler made 16 stops to earn the win in net.
The Bugs and Brahmas will conclude their rivalry series tomorrow night at Nytex Sports Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
