Bulls Swarm Bugs & Title Defense Comes to an End

May 6, 2019

The Shreveport Mudbugs (5-5) fell to the Amarillo Bulls, 6-0 in GAME 5 Sunday night at the Amarillo Civic Center which ended their Robertson Cup title defense in the South Divisional Final.

Amarillo got off to a hot start in the contest when Gabriel Seger shot in a rebound in front just 54 seconds into the game to give the Bulls the early 1-0 lead. The Bulls swarmed the Bugs and it was Jason Brancheau who rifled home a goal at 7:38 making it a 2-0 contest. Shreveport got off to a shaky start, but recovered to put some pressure of their own on goalie Justin Evenson, but had nothing to show for it. Amarillo led in SOG, 19-11 after one period of play.

Amarillo extended their lead in the 2nd period when they scored goals from Jordan Venegoni, Alex Peterson, and Logan Jenuwine at 4:06, 17:31, and 19:06 respectively which put the Bugs in bad shape down 5-0. After Amarillo made it 3-0 at 4:06, Coach Soupy made a change in goal pulling Leo Chuard in favor of Maiszon Balboa. Shreveport just couldn’t muster much offensively and came up empty on the game’s first powerplay which didn’t help. The Bulls led in SOG, 36-19 after two periods of play.
The Bulls added an empty netter to make it a 6-0 contest when Coach Soupy pulled Balboa for a 6 on 4 PP chance midway through the 3rd period. Amarillo would go on to shutout Shreveport, 6-0 and win the best of five series, 3-2.
The Mudbugs’ title defense comes to an end. Thank you to the wonderful fans, corporate partners, and staff for all your support! We’ll see you next season.
