Bugs Win Streak Ends at Eight Games in Series Split against IceRays

Jan 7, 2024

The Shreveport Mudbugs (23-8-2) ran into a surging Corpus Christi IceRays squad and fell 5-2 ending their win streak at eight games in George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum Saturday night.

CC got off to a fast start with goals from Pierson Sobush and Luca Fasciano at 8:17 and 9:22 respectively of the opening period to give the IceRays an early 2-0 lead. SHV fought back at 11:46 as Logan Heroux hammered home his ninth tally of the year from the right point to make it a 2-1 contest. Kyan Haldenby earned the only helper on Heroux’s goal. The Bugs would find the equalizer on the PP as Haldenby kept the puck in the zone and fired a shot on net which was stopped, but then it was Nick Marino smacking in the rebound to even the score, 2-2 at 17:58.

CC would score a very flukey goal as Ryan Hintz threw a puck towards the net which deflected off the Bugs blueline’s skates and into the net at 18:05 of the second period to give the IceRays a 3-2 edge.

The Bugs put a push in the third period, but couldn’t find the equalizing tally again as Corpus Christi added two EN goals as Shreveport fell 5-2 ending their win streak at eight games.

The Bugs will continue their season-long homestand next weekend as they’ll host the Odessa Jackalopes for a two-game series. Game one will be next Friday night w/ puck drop scheduled for 7:11 from George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum.
