Bugs Win in Topeka

Sep 30, 2017

The Shreveport Mudbugs (6-2) scored enough goals and got superb goaltending to grind out a 3-1 win over the Topeka Roadrunners Saturday night at the Kansas Expocentre.
Shreveport lit up the scoreboard first when Colorado native Cole Quisenberry backhanded home his 2nd goal of the year in front of the net. Brendan Gysbers and Ryan Burnett got the assists as they set up the play in the offensive. The Bugs led 1-0 after 1 period of play.
The 2nd period consisted of great scoring opportunities for both teams, but no scoring was to be had. Mudbugs led in SOG, 22-14 after 2.
The Bugs extended their lead midway through the 3rd period when Derek Contessa tipped home a shot from Alex Spencer at the left point for his first goal of the year! Gino Carabelli picked up the second assist on the goal and Shreveport led 2-0.
Topeka responded with a goal of their own on the powerplay, but Quisenberry tapped home an empty net tally for his 2nd goal of the night putting the Mudbugs up 3-1 with 47 seconds left in the game.
James Durham was masterful in nets with 25 saves on the night to improve his personal record to 2-0.
Shreveport wins for the sixth time in their seven games.

The Mudbugs will travel to Odessa to take on the Jackalopes next Friday night for the first game of a two-game set. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
