Bugs Win Game 1 in NAHL Showcase

The Shreveport Mudbugs (3-0) rallied from multiple deficits in the game to come from behind and beat the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, 4-3 in the shootout Wednesday afternoon in their first of four in the NAHL Showcase from the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, MN.

The Mudbugs rallied back from a 2-0 deficit in the 2nd period when C.J. McGee threw one at the net from just ahead of the blue line which found its way in for his 2nd goal of the season at 7:04. Ethan Harrison and Anton Rubstov grabbed the assists on the tally. Shreveport then built off that momentum and tied it at 13:30 when Andrew Jackson hammered in the rebound for his 2nd goal of the season. Anton Rubstov picked his 2nd assist and Justin Cmunt got the secondary helper. Fairbanks came right back and scored to put the Ice Dogs back up 3-2 after two periods of play.

Shreveport battled in the third period and Matt Stoia flipped in his first of the season at 5:54 assisted by Justin Cmunt tying the game up at 3.
The game stayed tied at 3 going into the overtime session, but neither team scored sending the contest into a shootout.
Connor Witherspoon and Matt Stoia scored both tallies in the shootout and Leo Chuard stopped both of his attempts closing out a dramatic come from behind 4-3 victory for the defending Robertson Cup Champs.
Chuard grabs his third straight win in the cage as Shreveport goes to 3-0 on this young season.
The Mudbugs will be back in action in the NAHL Showcase tomorrow night as they’ll face off against the Janesville Jets. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm.
