Bugs top the Ice Rays

The Shreveport Mudbugs (27-5-3-2) scored early and often to help top the Corpus Christi Ice Rays, 6-2 Friday night at The American Bank Center.

The Mudbugs started off the scoring when Jake Transit banged home the rebound from the far side for his 9th goal of the year. Brendan Gysbers grabbed the only assist on Transit’s goal at 6:31 of the 1st. Then, it was Transit’s best friend Jack Clement on the PP who was able to poke home a juicy rebound from the far side for his 7th tally of the year at 13:39 giving Shreveport an early 2-0 lead. Roberts Baranovskis and Jack Jaunich. The Ice Rays scored on the PP late in the first cutting the lead in half, 2-1 after one period of play.

Shreveport would stun the home crowd when Jack Clement took a brilliant from his best friend Transit to bury home his 2nd goal of the night at 5:06 of the 2nd period. The goal was shorthanded. Newbie Jonatan Asplund from Sweden would wrist home his first goal of the season in his first game as a Mudbug just 1:19 after Clement’s 2nd tally. Kieran Durgan grabbed the only assist on Asplund’s goal. Shreveport led 4-1 at this point in the contest. At 4-2, Ryan Burnett would drive a loose puck in front for his 8th goal of the year assisted by Jordan Fader and Cole Quisenberry at 17:26 of the middle frame. Shreveport led 5-2 after two periods of play.

Durgan would tuck in his team leading 16th goal of the year to ice the game up in the 3rd period at 17:24.

Gustavs Grigals would get the win in net recording 17 saves for his 13th personal victory of the season.

The Mudbugs will conclude their two-game set tomorrow night against the Ice Rays. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm at the American Bank Center. ​
