Bugs Top Brahmas

Nov 29, 2020

The Shreveport Mudbugs (6-1-1) got off to a great start and out-worked their way to a 4-1 victory over the Lone Star Brahmas Saturday night to earn three out of a possible four points this weekend at Nytex Sports Centre.
The Mudbugs got on the board at 10:25 of the first period from Garrett Steele firing home his second goal in as many games from the far post to give the Bugs a 1-0 edge. Gio Procopio made the play possible with great work down low to center Steele for the opening tally. Then Procopio stole a pass and scored on a breakaway as he slipped the puck past the LS goalie’s pads to lift Shreveport to a 2-0 lead at 13:12. Bugs led in SOG, 15-7 after one period of play.
The Bugs added to their lead at 4:09 when Braiden Dorfman ripped home his third goal of the season in front to give Shreveport a 3-0 advantage. Brent Keefer picked up the only assist as he dished across to the far post for Dorfman to finish it off. Mudbugs led in SOG, 27-11 after two periods of play.
Lone Star got back in the game at 10:46 when Andrew DeCarlo tipped home a goal to make it a 3-1 Shreveport lead. The Bugs responded at 15:48 when Connor Gatto slipped through the slot and went to the forehand and shot in his second goal of the year to make it a 4-1 contest. Austin Brimmer and Bill Feczko earned the helpers.
Cole Hudson earned his fourth win in net making 16 saves unofficially.

The Mudbugs will have their long awaited home opener next Friday night as they host the Amarillo Bulls at George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
