Bugs Tie Series

Feb 2, 2019

The Shreveport Mudbugs (21-16-6) got a late game goal from a former player on the team to beat their arch rival – Lone Star Brahmas, 2-1 Friday night at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
Lone Star got on the scoreboard first just like they did last night as Matt Guerra intercepted a pass in the Mudbugs zone and was able to shoot one that squeezed through Maiszon Balboa and into the back of the net at 5:47. The Mudbugs were able to sustain good pressure the other way and out-shot Lone Star, 9-7 after one period of play.
The Mudbugs continued to put pressure on Seth Eisele in net for Lone Star and drew a penalty shot as Lone Star illegally covered up the puck with chaos in front at 17:26 of the 2nd period. “Coach Soupy” decided to go with Captain Jay Feiwell to take the penalty shot and he buried home his 12th of the year with a blistering shot in the slot to tie the game up, 1-1. The Bugs led in SOG, 24-14 after two periods of play.
The Mudbugs continued to tilt the ice in their favor in the 3rd period and had chance after chance to break a 1-1 tie. A big opportunity came for the Bugs as Feiwell drew a cross-checking call and would go on the power play late in the game. It was Conor Witherspoon’s pass that got broken up, but Anton Rubstov was in the slot to pick up that puck and whip it in on the backhand at 17:39 lifting the crowd up on their feet and giving Shreveport a 2-1 lead. The Bugs were able to hold off a late surge from the Brahmas to win the second game of this three-game series.
Maiszon Balboa grabbed the win in net making 18 saves on the night.

The Mudbugs and Brahmas will conclude their three-game series tomorrow night at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. It will be “Soupy-Bowl Saturday” with lots of fun festivities planned throughout the game. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
