Bugs Take Down Wranglers in Series Opener; SHV 13-2 in last 15 games

The Shreveport Mudbugs (36-13-2) got lots of scoring from up and down their lineup to help take down the Amarillo Wranglers, 5-1 at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum Friday night. 
 
 
SHV got on the board at 5:01 of the opening period as Brent Litchard dropped back a perfect pass to Lucas Deeb who drilled home his 17th goal of the season which grazed off the Amarillo netminder’s glove and into the net to give the Bugs a 1-0 lead. Litchard and Ryan Burke picked up the helpers. The Bugs extended their lead on the PP at 15:14 when Nick Marino found a loose puck in front of a yawning net and punched in his 18th tally to make it a 2-0. Colin Vassallo and Hayden Nichol earned the assists on the PP goal. 
 
 
SHV pushed their lead to 3-0 at 16:52 when Liam Fleet who found time and space and fired home his sixth goal of the campaign. Seth Murch and Brayden Cook earned the helpers. 
 
 
The Bugs kept the party going on the PP again as Colin Vassallo waited for a perfect feed from the short who hammered in his 15th goal of the year to make it 4-0 at 1:37 of the 3rd period. Shreveport put one more on the board as Carter McKay redirected in his fifth to make it a 5-0 contest giving everyone at the game a free Sonic Drive In Route 44 drink with their ticket voucher. Amarillo scored a goal at 17:17 to spoil a shutout bid for Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau who made 20 stops to earn the win in net. 
 
 
SHV won for the 13th time in their last 15 games. 
 
 

The Bugs and Wranglers will conclude their two-game series tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m. from George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
