Apr 5, 2021

The Shreveport Mudbugs (29-7-5) got off to a roaring start and blew out the Amarillo Bulls, 5-1 for their third straight sweep and sixth straight victory overall Saturday night at the Amarillo Civic Center.
The Mudbugs got off to a fast start just 1:45 into the game when Austin Brimmer fired home his sixth goal of the year from the RW circle to give Shreveport the early 1-0 edge. Chris Hedden and Dawson Sciarrino assisted on Brimmer’s first goal since Dec. 11th of this season. Amarillo came back at 9:34 when Ty Black tipped home his tenth goal of the season to even the score, 1-1. Shreveport would respond late in the 1st period when Griffen Sanom slammed in his fifth goal of the season from the right corner to give the Bugs the lead back at 2-1. Billy Feczko earned the only assist. The Bugs led in SOG, 15-8 after one.
The Bugs extended their lead at 14:25 of the 2nd period when Garrett Steele was net front to rifle home the juicy rebound in front for his ninth goal of the year to make it a 3-1 lead for Shreveport. Connor Gatto made the play happen to get the puck towards the net and picked up the only assist. Then just 46 seconds later at 15:11, it was Sean Bunting grabbing a loose puck from the LW circle and roofing in his eighth goal of the season to lift the lead to 4-1. Mason McCormick and Davis Goukler earned the helpers on Bunting’s latest tally. Two goals – 46 seconds apart from the Bugs prompted the Bulls to switch goalies. Shreveport led in SOG, 29-17 after two.
Shreveport controlled most of the third period and added a goal at 9:49 of the third period when Braiden Dorfman drilled home his team-leading 16th goal of the season to make it a 5-1 contest. That’s all she wrote for the scoring the rest of the way.
Cole Hudson wins his 17th game in net making 23 saves to help Shreveport win their season-best sixth straight.

The Bugs will return home to face the Odessa Jackalopes for a two-game series beginning next Friday night at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
