BUGS SWEEP AMARILLO

The Shreveport Mudbugs (6-4) were able to overcome three different deficits to come back and beat the Amarillo Bulls, 5-4 in a shootout to remain undefeated at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.

Amarillo struck first in the first period when Gabriel Seger shot in the rebound at 11:46 assisted by Jake WIllets. The Bulls led 1-0 and out-shot the Bugs, 17-11 after one period of play.

Trailing 2-0 midway through the 2nd period, the Bugs finally fired back when Warren Natyshak banged in the rebound infront for his 2nd goal of the year on the PP at 9:23 cutting the lead in half, 2-1. Billy Fezcko made the play happen and earned the only assist on the goal. Less than two minutes later, Jack Johnson did it all on his own and fired home his third goal on the breakaway shorthanded to tie the game up, 2-2. Amarillo came back and scored 31 seconds later after Johnson’s goal to go back ahead 3-2 however. Shreveport battled back late in the 2nd period as Grant Bondy carried the puck into the zone and snapped a beauty for his 1st goal of the year to tie the game up again, 3-3 in a wild and crazy middle period.

Amarillo regained the lead in the third period, 4-3, but the Bugs responded 37 seconds, Johnson banged in his 2nd goal of the night trying the game up at 4. Matthew Smoliga and Jack Jaunich grabbed the assists on the goal.

The game stayed tied 4-4 until the shootout when Billy Feczko rifled home the game-winning propelling a packed crowd at Georges Pond to their feet. Shreveport defeats Amarillo, 5-4.

Leo Chuard made 49 saves to keep the Mudbugs in the game to pick up his 5th win of the season.

The Mudbugs will be on the road next Friday to take on these same Amarillo Bulls at the Amarillo Civic Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
