The Shreveport Mudbugs (23-5-3-2) rallied from behind to top the Corpus Christi Ice Rays, 3-2 in the shootout Friday night at the American Bank Center.
The Ice Rays got the game’s first goal when Ryan Rosenberg flipped a tricky shot on net for his first goal of the season at 2:46 of the opening period. It was the only goal of the period giving Corpus Christi the early 1-0 advantage after one period of play.
Shreveport responded quickly in the 2nd period when Kieran Durgan fired home his 14th goal shorthanded just 44 seconds in to tie the game up at 1. Andrew Lane got the only assist on Durgan’s tally. Corpus Christi responded and scored on an odd-man rush to retake the lead, 2-1 after two periods of play.
The Mudbugs rallied in the 3rd period when Gueorgui Feduolov banged in his 2nd goal in as many games on a rebound in front for a PP goal at 6:18 tying the game up 2-2. Dominick Procopio and Brendon Gysbers got the assists on Feduolov’s goal.
The game would stay tied 2-2 as it went into a shootout. Feduolov would score the only goal in the shootout session and James Durham would make three gigantic stops to preserve a Shreveport 3-2 win over Corpus Christi.
Durham made 32 saves overall in the game to pick up his personal best 13th win of the season.
The Mudbugs now have 51 points on the season which is an NAHL best and own a 14-point lead over the Brahmas for first place in the South Division.
The Mudbugs will return home and be back in action hosting these very same Ice Rays at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum this Tuesday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11pm.
