Bugs Lose Second of Two Game Set in Corpus Christi

The Shreveport Mudbugs (27-6-3-2) lost 1-0 in a tough, hard hitting contest against the Corpus Christi Ice Rays Saturday night, splitting their two-game set at the American Bank Center.

There was no scoring in the first period, but Alex Spencer got into a big fight with Brendan Miller of the Ice Rays in the opening minute of the game. It was a good fight as both got 5 minute penalties for fighting. Shreveport led in SOG, 12-9 after one period of play.

No scoring occurred in the 2nd period either as Shreveport led in SOG, 22-16 after the conclusion of the middle frame.

The score stayed scoreless until Matt Novo of the Ice Rays rifled a shot past Jaxon Castor that went in and out of the cage so fast, nobody knew for sure if it was a good goal or not. After upon further review, it was a good goal. That was the only goal of the game. Shreveport put 31 shots on the Ice Rays net, but couldn’t beat Jake Acton.

Jaxon Castor made 21 saves in his Mudbug debut in net.

Shreveport dropped their first regulation game since Dec. 15th at Lone Star.

The Mudbugs will return home next weekend and welcome in the Amarillo Bulls for a two-game set at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11pm for both Friday and Saturday night. ​
