Bugs Lose in a Shootout

Dec 15, 2018

The Shreveport Mudbugs (13-11-5) responded on many occasions when facing adversity, but couldn’t prevail in the end falling to the Lone Star Brahmas, 5-4 in the shootout on Teddy Bear Toss night Saturday at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
After trailing 2-0 early in the game, the Mudbugs responded with a much needed shorthanded tally. Jay Feiwell stole the puck and raced down the length of the ice and threw one in front which Ethan Harrison tipped in at 14:25 of the 1st period. The goal made it a 2-1 Brahmas lead after one period of play. It was Harrison’s team-leading 12th goal of the season.
Lone Star came right back just 19 seconds into the 2nd period and scored to make it a 3-1 Brahmas lead. However, the Mudbugs responded on a broken play at 1:07 as Tim Khokhlachev buried one in the slot for his third goal of the season making it a 3-2 contest. Both teams would trade scoring chances for the rest of the middle period as the Bugs led in SOG, 23-21 after two.
After trailing 4-2 with 8:53 left in the game, the Mudbugs showed plenty of fight once again as Gueorgui Feduolov buried his third goal in two games at 13:38 making it a 4-3 contest. Then Shreveport dramatically tied the game up at 4 with 1:23 left in the 3rd period when Lukass Sicevs fired home a juicy rebound in front for his fourth goal of the season.
The game stayed tied 4-4 going into overtime, but neither team could score sending the game into the shootout for the third time between these two teams this season.
Scott Perrson and Matt Guerra would score the only goals for both teams in the shootout lifting Lone Star to a 5-4 win over Shreveport.
The Mudbugs earn one point in the game.

The Mudbugs and Brahmas will conclude their three-game set tomorrow night at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
