The Shreveport Mudbugs (38-14-2) staged a late comeback which fell short at the end dropping a 4-3 decision to the Oklahoma Warriors at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum Saturday night.
OKW struck first at 9:15 of the opening frame as William Ahlrik snuck a shot into the net for his 17th tally of the year to give the visiting team an early 1-0 edge.
SHV evened up the score at 12:20 on the PP when Hayden Nichol won the RW circle draw and kicked it back to Brayden Cook who rifled home his 15th goal of the year from the slot to make it a 1-1 contest. OKW responded on the PP of their own when Drew Sutton redirected in his 18th tally in front to give the Warriors a 2-1 edge at 19:14. OKC led in SOG, 19-18 after two.
SHV couldn’t get much going in the third and got in penalty trouble which resulted w/ goals from Connor Smith at 8:57 and Louie Kamienski at 13:42 to put themselves into a bigger hole trailing 4-1 to OKW. The Bugs would put a last minute comeback attempt as they got tallies from Carter McKay and Brent Litchard – 19 seconds apart to pull within a goal at 4-3 w/ 1:10 remaining in the contest. That would be the closest the Bugs would get as the Warriors stopped any game-tying opportunity and picked up just their second win in ten tries against Shreveport.
The Bugs will hit the road once again and take on the Odessa Jackalopes for a two-game series beginning next Friday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. from Ector County Coliseum.
