Bugs Ground the Pilots

The Shreveport Mudbugs (11-8-3) dominated early and often as they out-worked the Topeka Pilots, 3-1 Friday night at the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka, Kansas.

The Mudbugs got on the board at 15:39 of the 1st period on a broken play as C.J. McGee threw the puck in front and Jay Feiwell banged it in for his fifth goal of the season giving Shreveport a 1-0 lead. The SOG were 11-10 in favor of Topeka in an evenly-played opening period.

Shreveport extended their lead at 4:04 in the 2nd period when Feiwell stole the puck and threw it out in front and Ethan Harrison tipped in his team-leading ninth goal of the season giving the Bugs a 2-0 edge. The Bugs kept it all rolling when Lukass Sicevs was able to hammer in his second tally of the year on a broken play in front. Sicevs’ goal was unassisted at 10:48 to give Shreveport a 3-0 lead. The Mudbugs out-shot the Pilots, 27-19 after two periods of play.
The Mudbugs dominated the puck possession all game long and Leo Chuard was trying to get his first shutout of the season. The bid got spoiled at 15:43 for the 3rd period when Topeka scored on the powerplay.
Chuard finished with 32 saves on the night to pick up the win.
Shreveport improves to 3-0-2 in their last fives games played.
The Bugs and Pilots will conclude their two-game tomorrow night at the Kansas Expocentre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ​
