Bugs Grind Past Grit to earn fourth straight Victory

Dec 15, 2023

The Shreveport Mudbugs (19-7-2) out-muscled and out-scored the Colorado Grit, 3-1 to earn their eighth win in their last nine at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum Thursday night.

SHV got on the scoreboard at 11:36 when Nick Marino fed Kyan Haldenby on an odd-man rush which was finished with a bullet from #24 to give the Bugs an early 1-0 edge. The Bugs led in SOG, 11-9 after a very competitive opening period.

The Grit responded at 16:57 of the second period as Christian Carter came into the slot and fired in his fourth tally of the year to even the score, 1-1. SHV quickly responded though as Marino found Brent Litchard on an odd-man rush and Litchard smoked in his second goal in as many games from the far side to give the Mudbugs the lead back at 2-1 at 17:24. Colorado led in SOG, 20-18 after two.

SHV put the game away at 19:12 of the third when Brayden Cook one-timed in his fourth goal of the year from the LW circle to make it a 3-1 contest. Ian Emery and Logan Heroux earned the helpers on the last goal of the game.

Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau made 24 stops to earn his 13th win in net.

The Bugs and Grit will conclude their two-game series tomorrow night. It’ll be our “Daddy-Daughter date night/Frozen/Princess” themed contest with puck drop scheduled for 7:11 p.m. from George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum.
