Bugs Give Springfield the Blues

Aug 31, 2018

The Shreveport Mudbugs sported new jersey, a new looking team, and skated away with a 3-1 victory over the Springfield Blues in their 2018-2019 preseason opener.
The Mudbugs broke through first at 19:09 on the powerplay as Billy Feczko slammed in the game’s first goal from the near circle to give Shreveport the early 1-0 lead. However, Springfield rallied back 34 seconds later and tied the game up at 1 with a shorthanded tally.
The game stayed tied 1-1 until the third period when Conor Witherspoon tucked in a rebound on the PP giving the Bugs lead back, 2-1 at 2:22. The Bugs took advantage of the major penalty on Springfield as Carson was able to light the lamp :59 seconds after WItherspoon’s goal netting his first extending Shreveport’s lead to 3-1.
The Bugs held off the Blues, 3-2 to grab the preseason opening victory at the George.

The Bugs and Blues will conclude this two-game series at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11pm.
