The Shreveport Mudbugs (11-6-1) were out-shot by a heavy margin and stumbled in their series finale falling 2-0 to the Amarillo Wranglers at the Amarillo Civic Center Friday night.
It was a slow start for SHV as they got out-shot 13-3 in the opening period. Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau was tall to the task to keep the game scoreless with some nice saves in the opening frame.
Amarillo would strike at 2:34 of the second period as Luke Morris got on an odd-man rush and roofed in his second goal of the season to give the Wranglers a 1-0 lead. The home team led in SOG, 19-10 after two.
The Bugs just couldn’t generate much offense, but their best chance came on an odd-man rush when Brayden Cook fed the puck to Hayden Nichol who put one on net, but Connor McDonough made a big left pad save to keep SHV off the scoreboard. After that, the Bugs would pull their netminder for the extra attacker, but Connor McNaughton nailed in an EN goal at 18:45 to help the Wranglers shutout the Mudbugs, 2-0. The Wranglers dominated the SOG, 33-15 over SHV.
The Bugs will have next weekend off before returning home to host the Odessa Jackalopes Nov. 17th for a two-game series. It’ll be our Military Appreciation themed weekend with puck drop scheduled for 7:11 p.m. from George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
