Bugs Fall to the Brahmas in Shootout

The Shreveport Mudbugs (21-16-7) rallied to tie the game early in the 3rd period, but fell in the shootout to the Lone Star Brahmas, 3-2 Saturday night at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
Lone Star got off to another good start in this series as Joey Baez and Vadim Kiryakov netted goals at :41 and 13:43 of the 1st period putting the Mudbugs in a 2-0 hole early. The Bugs had a goal disallowed at 19:25 keeping the score, 2-0 after one period of play. Shreveport doubled up Lone Star, 16-8 in SOG after the opening frame.
The Mudbugs stormed back in the opening minutes of the 2nd period as Ryan Dickinson tipped home his 2nd goal of the year in front at 1:06. It was a powerplay tally and the assist went to Gueorgui Feduolov and it cut the deficit in half at 2-1. Shreveport out-shot Lone Star, 32-15 after two periods of play.
Shreveport rallied in the opening minutes of the 3rd period when Anton Rubstov redirected a puck into the net for his second goal in as many games and ninth of the season to tie the game up, 2-2. C.J. Regula earned the only assist on the goal at 1:31.
The game stayed tied 2-2 going into the OT and the Bugs missed quite a few glorious chances to net the game-winning goal. Seth Eisele stole the game in net making 51 saves on the night.
The game would go to the shootout and Blake Evennou would score the only goal in the session as the Bugs fell to the Brahmas, 3-2.
Shreveport earns a point for their effort and stays in 2nd place in the South division holding just a one-point lead with 49 points.

The Mudbugs continue this home-stand next weekend as they take on the Odessa Jackalopes for a two-game series starting next Friday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m. from Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
