Bugs Fall to the Bulls in Amarillo

Oct 20, 2018

The Shreveport Mudbugs (6-5) fell to the Amarillo Bulls, 5-1 in a tension-filled contest Friday night at the Amarillo Civic Center.

After trailing early, the Mudbugs responded quickly after the goal given up when Jack Johnson ripped in his team leading sixth goal of the year assisted by Andrew Jackson at 7:54. The game was tied 1-1 after one period of play despite Amarillo out-shooting Shreveport, 16-4 at that point of the game.

Amarillo continued to dominate the game scoring a pair of goals in the 2nd period giving the Bulls a 3-1 lead. The Bulls out-shot the Bugs, 36-7 after two periods of play. The frustration mounted on the Robertson Cup Champs as Grant Bondy got into a fight and received a major penalty and a game ejection because of it.

The Bulls ended up netting two more goals in the 3rd period to put away the Bugs, 5-1 in the end. Amarillo out-shot Shreveport 51-12.

Leo Chuard took the tough luck loss despite making 46 saves on the night.

The loss to Amarillo snaps a 12-game win streak the Bugs had over the Bulls dating back to the first year Shreveport squad of the NAHL era.

The Mudbugs and Bulls conclude their two-game from the Amarillo Civic Center tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Listen live at Mudbugs Hockey’s YouTube channel.
