Bugs Fall Late to Brahmas

Feb 18, 2023

The Shreveport Mudbugs (24-14-6) couldn’t survive a big third period from the Lone Star Brahmas falling 3-2 at Nytex Sports Centre Saturday night.
The Bugs opened up the scoring early at 3:22 of the 1st as Logan Gotinsky had some space along the left side and faked out the LSB netminder and backhanded home his 13th tally of the season to give SHV a 1-0 edge. Nik Miller and Ryan Austin earned the helpers on the game’s first goal. LSB would even the score at 13:52 when Dhillon Wilde redirected in his 15th goal of the campaign in front to make it a 1-1 contest. Lone Star led in SOG, 6-3 after one.
SHV was in survival mode in the second period having to kill off three penalties in the first eight mins and not generating much offensively. It was at last Logan Heroux’s speed up the left side which helped him race in and flip in his seventh tally of the season as it trickled through Arthur Smith’s five-hole and into the net to give the Bugs the lead back at 2-1 at 17:22. Liam Fleet earned the only assist on the period’s only goal. The Brahmas led in SOG, 17-7 after two.
The Brahmas put a big surge in the third period which started at 1:39 when Matt McDonald snapped home his 13th tally of the year along the far side to even the score, 2-2. Lone Star would then take their first lead of the night on the PP at 13:42 as Nate Mann roofed in his fifth from the left point to give LSB the 3-2 edge. The Bugs put up a late push towards the end of the game, but couldn’t beat Smith again as they fell 3-2 in the end.

The Bugs and Brahmas will finish off their regular season series next weekend for a two-game series at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. It’ll be our annual “Made in America” themed series w/ puck drop scheduled for 7:11 p.m.  next Friday night.
