Bugs Edge Bulls in Shootout & Snap Losing Skid

Apr 23, 2021

The Shreveport Mudbugs (32-9-6) grinded out a victory over the Amarillo Bulls, 2-1 in the shootout to snap their losing skid and send home a packed house at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum very happy.
Both teams came up empty in the opening period thanks to great saves from both netminders. It was a pretty evenly matched 1st period where Amarillo led in SOG, 9-7 after one.
The Bugs and Bulls both had great chances in the middle period, but once again Arseniy Sergeev and Hunter Garvey were sharp in the cage to keep the game scoreless. The game’s first PP came with 1:19 left in the 2nd. Amarillo out-shot Shreveport 13-7 in the period.
Amarillo broke a scoreless tie in the 3rd period at 13:43 on the PP when Greg Japchen powered home his 12th goal of the season from the left point to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead late in the contest. The Bugs would respond just 52 seconds after the Bulls scored with one of their own as Austin Brimmer drove to the net and muscled in his seventh goal of the season to dramatically tie the game, 1-1 at 14:35. The goal was unassisted from Brimmer.
The game stayed tied 1-1 sending the contest to OT where both goalies made big stops as well which forced a shootout to decide this tight contest.
Shreveport would prevail in the shootout with the game-winning tally scored from Billy Feczko who fired home a slick shot far post to lift the Bugs to an intense 2-1 victory and snap a three-game losing skid.

The Bugs and Bulls will conclude their two-game series tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m. from George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
