Bugs Drop Heartbreaker in Four OT’s to rival Brahmas in Playoff Opener

The Shreveport Mudbugs (0-1) drop a heartbreaker to the Lone Star Brahmas, 2-1 in four OT’s at Nytex Sports Centre Friday night in Game 1 of the opening round of the Robertson Cup Playoffs.
After a scoreless opening period, Hayden Nichol broke the ice at 11:35 as Hayden Nichol got in front and slipped in the first goal of this series to give SHV an early 1-0 edge. Eric Vitale and Liam Fleet earned the helpers on the PP tally. Lone Star came right back at 13:11 as Will Laychur redirected home the Brahmas’ first goal in the slot to knot the game up, 1-1. LSB led in SOG, 17-13 after one.
In the third period, both teams had their chances, but neither team could cash in sending the game into sudden death OT. LSB led in SOG, 23-17 after three.
The game stayed tied until 6:42 of the 4th OT when Antti Autere snapped a one-timer from the near circle which snuck past Simon Bucheler’s blocker and into the net to give Lone Star a 2-1 victory over Shreveport.
This game went down as the longest game in franchise history – PRO and NAHL combined at 126 minutes and 42 seconds.

 

 

The Bugs and Brahmas will play game 2 tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from Nytex Sports Centre.
