The Shreveport Mudbugs (14-7) played a solid road game and beat the Corpus Christi Ice Rays, 3-1 Friday night at the American Bank Center.
Bugs opened up the scoring late in the 1st period when Billy Feczko found Sam Miller with open ice in the slot and #41 knew what to do with it as he ripped home his team-leading seventh goal of the year. Feczko earned the only assist on Miller’s goal at 16:58 giving Shreveport the 1-0 edge.. SOG were tied 10-10 after one period of play.
Shreveport extended their lead in the second period with great work down low from Brent Keefer and Billy Feczko which helped set up a juicy rebound for Jacob Smith slam in for his fifth goal of the season. Smith’s goal came at 6:41 from Keefer and Feczko making it a 2-0 contest. Corpus Christi would respond with a goal at 16:52 from Erik Bargholtz making it a 2-1 game.
The Bugs were able to grab some much needed cushion at 7:41 of the 3rd period when Ryan Waltman centered a pass in front and it was Gio Procopio who was able to tip home his first goal of the year. Alexis Girard earned the secondary helper making it a 3-1 Bugs advantage.
Maiszon Balboa was great in net making 23 saves in preserving a 3-1 Bugs victory which was their eighth in their past ten games.
