Bugs Defeat Roadrunners

Jan 12, 2018

The Shreveport Mudbugs (25-5-3-2) coasted past the Topeka Roadrunners, 3-1 in front of a sellout crowd for Pucks N’ Prayers night at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.

After a scoreless first period, Alex Spencer shot in his first goal of the season from the left point at 10:11 to put Shreveport up 1-0 and light up the sellout crowd. Roberts Baranovskis got the only assist on Spencer’s tally.

The Bugs led 1-0 going into the third period and knew they needed more goals to put away Topeka. Cam Cook answered the bell with a rocket from the far circle for his 11th goal of the season at 2:25. Cook’s goal was assisted by Gueorgui Feduolov & Dominick Procopio and the Mudbugs led 2-0 early in the 3rd. Shreveport would get an ugly and scrappy goal as Kieran Durgan just flipped one in for his team leading 15th goal at the 12:00 mark. Durgan’s tally was helped by Jake Transit and Andrew Lane.

Topeka would score at 18:42 breaking James Durham’s bid for his NAHL-leading 6th shutout.

Durham picks up his 14th win of the year recording 15 saves on the night.

Shreveport improves to 5-0-1 in their last six games played.

The Mudbugs will be back in action tomorrow night to conclude their two-game set against Topeka. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11pm at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
