Bugs Bury Jacks in OT

The Shreveport Mudbugs (7-1-1) got some home cooking late in the game to earn a 3-2 victory over the Odessa Jackalopes in OT Friday night in the home opener at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
Odessa got on the board in the first period when Charlie Banquier threw in his first goal of the season from the top of the point to give the Jacks the early 1-0 lead. Shreveport responded as Sean Bunting and Garrett Steele set up Joe Mack cutting through the slot to slam in his second goal of the season knotting the score at 1-1 at 12:48 of the opening period.
Shreveport took its first lead at home this season when Austin Brimmer stole the puck from the far circle and fired home his fifth tally of the season at 9:38 to make it a 2-1 contest. Odessa responded at 14:43 when Joey Musa got space on a stretch pass and shot in his first goal to tie the game, 2-2. The Jacks led in SOG, 23-19 after two periods of play.
The game stayed tied 2-2 after the third period sending the contest into overtime. Then at 4:40 of the extra session, Matt Weber poked a pass up ahead to Chris Hedden who scored the game-winning goal on the breakaway lifting the Bugs to a 3-2 victory. It was Hedden’s second tally of the season.

Shreveport is now 6-0-1 in their last seven games played.
The Bugs and Jacks will conclude their two-game series at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m. ​
